Grant Theft Auto 6 on Netflix
Plus EA is now owned by the Saudis and Jared Kushner
Grand Theft Auto 6 is preparing to launch its next preview, but you will need to have Netflix to watch it when it releases. Also, Electronic Arts' bid to go private is now complete. Find out more along with all the latest news. Let’s go.
A new GTA6 preview is coming...to Netflix

Rockstar Games announced that it will show an “extended look” at their upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA6) game on Netflix August 27.
This is the first time an advertisement for a game has had a premiere on a paid streaming service. In a statement, Netflix VP of Nonfiction Series Brandon Riegg said that GTA reveals “have become cultural moments.” He continued:
The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first.
It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming – a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience.
This may be the first trailer for the game that shows actual gameplay, as the two trailers that were released so far have been more focused on the environment and the story. The trailer will debut on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET, and be available on Rockstar’s YouTube channel six hours later.
In other news, GTA6 publisher Take-Two reported their quarterly financial numbers. Some highlights from the company’s quarterly report:
- During the period preorders for GTA6 opened, Take-Two made $1.39 billion in sales. The company is also predicting $8 billion in sales this fiscal year.
- CEO Strauss Zelnick said physical versions of GTA6 “don’t really make sense for the consumer,” equating it with vinyl records.
- Zelnick says the price of games has not kept pace with inflation, but the $80 and $100 prices for GTA6 are where they should be.
- Zelnick also predicts that video game streaming will be a prominent way to play games within three years.
- As the next game prepares to launch, its predecessor GTA5 has reportedly sold over 230 million copies.
EA goes private

Electronic Arts is now a private company, owned mostly by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund. Other investors include investment company Silver Lake and Affinity Partners (a company owned by U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner).
This group of investors paid $55 billion to take the company private. According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, EA will take on $18 billion in debt, which will require the company to pay $1.8 billion per year in interest. EA plans to cut $700 million in costs, including $170 million in "organizational efficiencies." What this means in non-corporate speak is expect significant job cuts from the company.

In a statement, EA CEO and chairman Andrew Wilson said:
We’re entering this next chapter from a position of strength with partners who share our vision and ambition. Together, we’ll invest boldly, accelerate innovation, and build the next generation of games and experiences for the hundreds of millions of players and fans who inspire us every day.
EA is most known for its sports games, including Madden, FC (soccer), NHL and college football.
