Diablo, Zelda and StarCraft Details Announced
Plus Nintendo shows off some of their new upcoming games
Nintendo and Blizzard made some major game announcements last week. We have all the details. Also, Zelda is turning 40. Find out what Nintendo and its partners have planned to celebrate, inducing a release date for their Ocarina of Time remake. All this and more of the latest gaming news. Let’s go.
Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Direct
Nintendo held two separate Directs last week. We will discuss both, but first up is the Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Direct. It looked at everything the company is planning to celebrate Link and Zelda, with the biggest announcement being a release date for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The game launches on Switch 2 November 5. You can check out the latest trailer 👇🏼
For Zelda enthusiasts, there were plenty additional announcements, including:
- Nintendo is releasing a new 40th anniversary Zelda-themed Switch 2 console and Pro Controller, along with new Amiibos for Link and Zelda.
- More details about the upcoming The Legend Of Zelda movie were announced (and yes, that is the movie’s name).
- Nintendo announced The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Concert. It may be coming to a city near you.
- A new Zelda lego set is set to launch next year, and it will feature Link on Epona.
There were more announcements, including a playable Ocarina and an exhibit at the Nintendo museum in Japan.
BlizzCon creates a storm
No one expected much from Blizzard's annual convention BlizzCon this year. After multiple rounds of cuts by the company’s owner Microsoft, some were even surprised it was being held. Those who attended were treated to a number of big and surprising announcements. Here are the biggest reveals:
Diablo V
Diablo V will release in the spring of 2029, and according to designer Joe Shely, “the heroes are gone, Sanctuary has fallen, and Diablo has won.”
StarCraft
A shooter based in the StarCraft world is being developed by former Far Cry developers, and will release in 2030.
World of Warcraft: Forever
The latest expansion to the popular MMORPG offers players three new zones, over 1,000 new quests, nine new dungeons and more. The game releases November 4.
Despite their releases being years away, Blizzard said they announced the new StarCraft and Diablo games early to “convey confidence” that they’ll ship on time. Check out everything else announced at BlizzCon 2026.

Nintendo’s other Direct
Zelda wasn’t the only thing Nintendo wanted to talk about last week. The company held another separate Direct to focus on other games in development. You can check out everything announced, but here are a few highlights:
Metroid Ravenous
A brand new 2D side-scrolling Metroid game. Metroid Ravenous is slated to arrive January 28, 2027.
Onyx: The Dark Grip
Nintendo announced this dark and creepy horror game that is a Switch 2 exclusive and arriving in 2027.
Kirby and the World Beyond
Nintendo announced a new 3D open world Kirby game. It is scheduled to launch in the spring of 2027.
Persona 6
Another short teaser trailer to remind fans that this game is in development. No new news regarding a date.

⛔ After a warning on social media from The Tetris Company, the White House took down their game Border Breached.
🏒 EA Sports NHL 27 commentator John Buccigross says the company used AI for some of his lines.
🥽 The studio behind the Moss virtual reality games is shutting down. Related: VR headset sales are down 18% compared to 2025.
🏆 The Roblox Innovation Awards revealed their 2026 winners, with Animal Hospital winning several awards.
🤦🏻 A Steam leak revealed the achievement lists for hundreds of upcoming games, including Kingdom Hearts 4, Fable, Metro 2039 and Persona 6.
🫨 Sega’s president says some of the biggest fans of its games don’t play them.
🫱🏿🫲🏻 Ikea launched a new Skyrim mod where players are joined by a Kallax shelving unit voiced by Matt Berry.
🎮 Apple is reportedly working on game controllers for the iPhone.
🧛🏻♂️ After its successful launch, a sequel to Blood of Dawnwalker is already in the works.
📈 Round numbers: Dave the Diver sold over 10 million copies and Wardogs sold one million copies in one day.
