What’s Next for Nexus Mods?
Plus Xbox and AMD take their relationship to the next level.

After 24 years, the most popular place for game mods is making a big change. How will it affect you? Also, Microsoft and AMD have a good thing going. Check out what is next for the two companies. All this and more. Let’s go!
Xbox goes with AMD
After speculation that Microsoft might move to Arm-based processors for its next console, Xbox president Sarah Bond stated last week that the company will use AMD chips for their next release. Bond also says this will allow the next Xbox to be backwards compatible and work across devices. In a statement, Microsoft says:
We’ve established a strategic, multi-year agreement with AMD to co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices, including our next-generation Xbox consoles. Together, we’re delivering deeper visual quality, immersive gameplay, and AI-powered experiences – grounded in a platform designed for players, not tied to a single store or device, and fully compatible with your existing Xbox game library.
Xbox recently announced their new partnership with Asus to make a portable gaming system, the ROG Xbox Ally X. This device will also use AMD chips, and releases later this year. Microsoft appears to be targeting a 2028 launch for its next console.
Nexus Mods’ next owner

After 24 years, the owner and creator of Nexus Mods is stepping down.
In a post on the Nexus Mods website, Robin “Dark0ne” Scott says he is stepping away, saying “the strain of being responsible for the behemoth I created has taken its toll.” For those unfamiliar, a mod is a modification to an existing video game usually created by players that changes a game's appearance, gameplay or visuals.
Scott discusses how he started the website in 2001 anticipating the release of Morrowind. Today, it is the place PC gamers go to add new functionality to their games. The site hosts over 700,000 mods for over 3,500 games including Skyrim, Fallout, The Witcher, Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3. Nearly 17 million mods have been downloaded from the site in those 24 years.
Scott addresses the question most people have in his post, what changes with him stepping back? “Honestly, not a lot, at least not from your side of things,” says Scott.
Behind the scenes, I’ve already been stepping back bit by bit. Over the past few years, the team has taken on more of the weight and the site’s been doing better than ever. What’s changing now is simply the formality of it, making sure the right people are in place to guide Nexus Mods into the next era.
