What’s Next for Destiny
Destiny 2

We’re a day later than usual after taking the day off for Memorial Day here in the States. Bungie is ceasing production of Destiny 2 in the near future. Find out the details and what that means for the franchise. Also, all the latest news from the past week. Let’s go!

Destiny 2 production is shutting down

Destiny 2

Bungie announced they are ending support for Destiny 2 on June 9. The game will remain online and playable, but active development of the game will end with one final patch. In a blog post, the company wrote:

For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all. Through all the ups and downs, surprises and triumphs, building Destiny alongside our players has been a monumental privilege. While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2.

While fans were excited this may mean that the company is working on a new Destiny game, Bungie says Destiny 3 is not in the works. In fact, the company is planning significant layoffs once the game reaches its conclusion.

Fans of the game took to the internet to ask Bungie to reconsider making a new Destiny game. A Change.org petition currently has over 200,000 signatures, and states:

The desire for new adventures, fresh storylines, and innovative gameplay features is palpable among players everywhere. Destiny 3 would not only meet these demands but also expand the horizons of what is possible within this universe.
