Grand Theft Auto VI Delayed Again
Plus the Switch 2 is doing quite well in sales
Rockstar announced it is delaying its most anticipated video game again. Find out when it is now scheduled to release. Also, Nintendo expands its estimates for Switch 2 sales. All this and more. Let’s go!
Rockstar delays Grand Theft Auto VI

One of the most anticipated games of 2025 is now scheduled to release near the end of 2026 after a second delay in six months.
Grand Theft Auto VI was originally slated to come out at the end of this year. Developer Rockstar Games announced in May that the game would be delayed until May 26, 2026. However, last week in a post on Twitter, Rockstar said the game would be delayed once more until Nov. 19, 2026. In a quote from their press release, Rockstar explains their decision:
We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.
Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick says he is “not in the least” bit worried about the delay. “[W]hen our competitors go to market before something was ready, bad things happen,” says Zelnick.
When it launches, Grand Theft Auto VI is likely to be one of the biggest selling games of the decade. The news comes a week after Rockstar was accused of firing employees who were trying to unionize. The company responded to those allegations by saying the employees were leaking company secrets.
Meanwhile, former Rockstar writer Dan Houser was in the news for a recent interview he did with Lex Fridman. In it he said the reason Grand Theft Auto games only take place in the United States and not in a city like London is simple: access to guns and larger-than-life characters. He also explains why Rockstar’s secret agent game Agent was never released:
It had about five different iterations. I don’t think it works, I concluded – and I keep thinking about it sometimes, I sometimes lie in bed thinking about it – and I’ve concluded that what makes them really good as film stories makes them not work as video games. We need to think through how to do it in a different way as a video game.
Supersized Switch 2 Sales
The Switch 2 is the biggest console launch of all times, which has Nintendo updating its financial projections, according to their latest earnings release.
After selling 10.36 million units since its launch in June, Nintendo says it now plans to sell 19 million Switch 2’s in its current fiscal year, which closes at the end of March 2026. Other announcements from their earning release include:
- 84% of Switch 2 players have transitioned from Switch.
- Roughly 9 out of 10 people who purchased Nintendo Switch 2 have played Mario Kart World.
- Over 20.62 million Switch 2 games have been sold, led by Mario Kart World (9.57 million copies) and Donkey Kong Bananza (3.49 million).
- Nintendo has 128 million annual playing users and 34 million paying Nintendo Switch Online members.
- Nintendo says it plans a “consistent release” of new films based on their games following the success of The Super Mario Bros Movie.
