A New Chapter for GOG

A New Chapter for GOG

We hope you had a great holiday season, and maybe got to play some games if you had some time off. GOG has been sold to one of the digital storefront’s cofounders. Find out the details. Also, Steam users chose the site’s Game of the Year. All this and more. Let’s go!

CD PROJEKT sells Good Old Games

Michał Kiciński is a co-founder of CD PROJEKT and Good Old Games (GOG). Last week, he acquired 100% of the latter for $25.2 million from CD PROJEKT.

GOG is a digital storefront known for their preservation of older video games and selling DRM-free versions through their site. In a press release from CD PROJEKT, Kiciński says he plans to continue to keep these principles in GOG’s digital sales.

“From the very beginning, GOG has always been built on strong values and clear principles. When Marcin Iwiński and I came up with the idea for GOG, the vision was simple: bring classic games back to players and ensure that once you buy a game, it truly belongs to you — forever,” said Kiciński.

In their own release, GOG says they still plan to distribute CD PROJEKT games, such as The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077. They also state:

GOG will remain  independent in its operations. We will continue building a platform that’s ethical, non-predatory, and made to last, while helping indie developers reach the world. We’re also committed to giving the community a stronger voice, with new initiatives planned for 2026.

Steam's Game of the Year

Steam held online voting for their 2025 Game of the Year, which concluded last week. The digital storefront allowed users to vote for games that are available on the service. With that in mind, it’s not a surprise that the game that took down the storefront when it went on sale took home the top honor.
