Resident Evil returns

Capcom held a Resident Evil showcase to promote Resident Evil Requiem, the latest game in the franchise which launches in February. The video showed off new gameplay, including the differences between playing as the game’s two protagonists, Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft.

The video also discussed changes to the in-game zombies, difficulty settings and different ways you can spend money within the game. The video is less than 15 minutes, and worth checking out if you are a Resident Evil fan.

A significant number of game developers will start off 2026 by searching for a new job.

Multiple studios announced layoffs last week, headlined by Meta. The virtual reality company has lost billions, and plans to trim their Reality Labs workforce by 10%. Last week, they announced the closure of three studios, Twisted Pixel, Sanzaru Games, and Armature Studio. Twisted Pixel recently launched the Deadpool VR game, while Sanzaru is known for the highly-regarded Asgard's Wrath. Overall, over 1,000 employees will lose their jobs.

Meta was not the only company announcing layoffs:

Gaming writers also had a bad week. The Verge laid off multiple reporters, while Inverse cut almost their entire gaming staff.
